On New Year’s Day I am enjoying music by one of my favorite musicians, Todd Sheaffer. The venue is packed and his music is inspiring.
In between songs Todd asks the crowd, “So how many of you created a resolution for the New Year?”
Everyone looks around. There are almost 100 fans there. But only one person raises his hand!
“Well ok then!” laughs Todd. “For those of you that don’t have resolutions, here’s one for you.” He begins to play a tune about enjoying yourself.
I am wondering, what happened here? Are people afraid to admit that they set a resolution? Do they not believe in resolutions? Are they resigned to the fact that they set resolutions every year and don’t achieve them—so why bother?
I get that New Year’s is a constructed concept. But why not take advantage of this time of year to reflect and set goals? January 1st is as good of time as any!
In order to get what you want in life, setting a resolution, goal or intention is essential! Isn’t much easier to hit the the target when you focus on the bullseye?!
My intention for this year is to listen to my intuition and trust myself. My goals are to 1) travel abroad for at least one month 2) build a stronger relationship with my family 3) focus on health and wellness 4) determine the next steps in my career.
What are yours??
Take a few moments and reflect. What do you really want for yourself? What are you willing to take on this year? Listen to yourself. Trust your inner knowing. Fear and self-doubt might show up for you. Can I really have what I want?
Yes you can! It takes courage to be honest with yourself. I encourage you to take the first step and declare what you want. Write it down. Share it with people around you.
I acknowledge you for your willingness to love yourself enough to take this powerful step. Together, through coaching, we can make your goals become real in your life.
Raise your hand and toast to a new year full of possibilities!
